Research Assistant: Visualisation Research Unit (VRU) 2006-2007
Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University
As part of my AHRC Preparation for Research–funded MA in Fine Art, I was based within the EU/AHRC-funded Visualisation Research Unit (VRU) at Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University. I worked as a research student, assistant, and associate on a three-year project exploring how new digital and networked technologies could support and expand fine art and performance practices.
As a Research Assistant, I contributed to qualitative research collection and analysis, co-authored publications, organised public events, and presented research at conferences including SARC, Queen’s University Belfast. I also led a week-long practice-led research residency and developed collaborative work with members of the research team. Access to the VRU’s technical and research infrastructure allowed me to explore emerging technologies within an arts-based research context while developing my own practice.
